Stop them

The Brexit logic is perverse. The Trump logic is perverse. They both put nations against nations and people against people (much more than we currently are and at a different level).

Our world is hugely interconnected and therefore Trump and Brexit agendas are also unrealistic. That is why they both will need extreme forms of national pride and media control to keep going.

There is no human advancement, economically, socially, culturally and politically, that can result from any of them, even if they come under a ‘soft’ mode.

There is no way to repurpose or hijack people’s desires to leave the EU, or put America first, for any good cause either. Brexit and Trump are essentially based on a fear and disdain for migrants and minorities as much as on a blind believe on something they call “the nation”, which is, at this time in history, nothing but a Trojan horse for something else: an ideology of competition and survival of the fittest that is permeating all aspects of society at a much faster pace.

At this point in our lives, there is no noble political cause that can refuse to reject actively Brexit and Trump.

A lot of people who have voted Brexit or Trump are genuinely good people who love everyone and want the best for them and the world. Fine. Let us help them to understand why they were wrong. Let us talk about their concerns about migration too.

However, let us not waste our time in persuading those individuals who hate migrants, who believe in their innate superiority, social or racial, who have lost their ability to love and respect others who are different from them. Let us not try to lure them to our side. Unfortunately, evil exists and always will. The best way to combat it is by growing stronger, not by negotiating with it.

Now is time to be pragmatic for once and do something to stop Brexit and Trump, democratically, of course. Protest, act, be seen and heard. If we sink in the pit of international, inter-ethnic competition and confrontation, there will be no easy way forward for any progressive agendas of any kind whatsoever. Our children will be entitled not to forgive us.

Wake up

Blood on the head of the Syrian child

Humiliation of desperate human beings

Corpses adrift in the grieving seas

Are the new European collective crimes

This time

We don’t have a Hitler or a Stalin to blame

This time

It’s you, it’s me.
